Members overview

The National Bibliographies (NatBib) tenant https://natbib-lod.org builds a shared discovery environment hosting linked open data National Bibliographies datasets from different participating institutions.

Early adopters of the Share Family environment dedicated to National Bibliographies include:

Each library can present its national bibliography on a dedicated institutional portal. The first institution to present its national bibliography through the Share Family technology is the British Library, see the British National Bibliography at https://bl.natbib-lod.org.

A dedicated working group has been created to discuss the specific use cases for libraries participating in the NatBib tenant, also open to institutions not yet formally involved. Summary of updates:

  • in addition to the British Library, early adopters from Europe include the National Libraries of Norway and Finland;
  • IFLA Bibliographic Section liaison (Tiziana Possemato from the Share Family Staff);
  • development of the main tenant of the shared discovery environment for national bibliographies: https://natbib-lod.org/; implementation of the skin portal for the BNB - British National Bibliography https://bl.natbib-lod.org;
  • analysis of use cases for specific features;
  • joint work with the SVDE UX-UI working group to design end user services and user interface/discovery features;
  • involvement of SVDE / Share Family members and external institutions.

The group activities are also outlined at ShareVDE:Members/Share-VDE working groups#Share Family National Bibliographies working group (Natbib).

Together with group participants, the Share Family examines and addresses the requirements of institutions responsible for maintaining National Bibliographies within linked data platforms, with the aim of enabling unique, global, and interoperable access to an authoritative bibliographic ecosystem, in an open way.

How to join

It’s important to note that participation in the National Bibliographies environment and related tenant is not in conflict with the participation in the Share-VDE tenant: while SVDE ingests the whole catalogue of bibliographic and authority data of any contributing libraries, the NatBib tenant ingests only the national bibliographies datasets, thus supporting a dedicated discovery environment and prospect ad hoc features for national bibliographies data that typically have specific requirements.
